Want That Home? It May Be Available... Just Not on MLS

There appears to be a growing number of real estate agents who are marketing homes privately.

While there is no national data for those who skip the multiple listing service, there are two small surveys to reference, which put exclusive listings around 20% of sales.

"Twenty percent of agents do 80 percent of the business, so why wouldn't the big agents want to work just amongst themselves?"asked Steve Murray, president of RealTrends, a real estate consulting and data company.

Zillow, a popular real estate website, recently entered the game to allow buyers to see what is out there. "Home shoppers can search for and find homes that are not yet on the market, but expect to be listed for sale within 30 days," according to the website.
